Rajya Sabha today passed the anti-corruption bill Lokpal and Lokayukta. After a long wait, clearing all hurdles, Lokpal is going to come in existence. Lokpal is a strong bill to curb corruption in society. It has provisions for compensating citizen grievance and protecting the whistle blowers. Lokpal will be established at center level and the states will be asked to implement Lokayukta. The states will be given one year time from the notification date for establishment of the bill. The state assemblies will finalize the format of Lokaykta.

In 2011 winter session, Lok Sabha passed the bill. After several rounds of debate in Rajya Sabha the house was adjourned without voting. There were changes suggested by a selection committee which was rectified and approved the cabinet. The Lokpal will be sent to Lok Sabha again for discussion and approval of changes made.

The move to pass Lokpal bill cheered social activist Anna Hazare and supporters of the bill. Anna thanked the MPs and assured that he will break his fast after the Lok Sabha passes the bill.
