For some it is energy booster and for some it is a waking-up stimulant. As you prepare the morning cup of tea, researchers have discovered another benefit of caffeine; enhancing memory. You might be trying different methods to enhance memory. You can include caffeine in that list to find better results. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University in the US performed a study of its kind and have discovered that caffeine has a positive effect on long-term memory in humans. The researchers found that giving people caffeine after they memorized a series of pictures significantly boosted their ability to remember the subtler details, compared to people who’d been given dummy pills. One of the noticeable points was that the caffeine was administered after the memory task was performed, rather than before it, which ensures that other caffeine-related factors, like attention, anxiety or energy are not what was driving the phenomenon.

According to researchers, brain has the ability to distinguish the difference between two similar; however, not identical items indicate a deeper level of memory preservation. Until now, caffeine's effects on long-term memory had not been examined in detail. Of the few studies done, the general consensus was that caffeine has little or no effect on long-term memory retention. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, 90% of people worldwide consume caffeine in one form or another. Care should be taken in case of dosage. Higher doses can bring all kind of side-effects. However, the study is exciting since it points to yet another way in which caffeine in moderation is actually good for the brain and not just in the long-term, but in the day-to-day activities as well.
